Diabetes Epidemic
Diabetes has become a big problem – hence epidemic – and no one wants it to go away because there is so much money to be made. It is so bad that I referred it to the old saying about Nero fiddling while Rome burned. This has to do with the collapse of the Roman Empire .
If you started out to get diabetes on purpose, the best way is to follow the diet of the American Diabetic Association. This is a special interest group that survives on new diabetic patients. If they really cared about the prevention of diabetes they would change there advice and recommendations to new diabetics.
Diabetes was a very small part of the US population a hundred years ago but today it is terrible in total numbers and has progressed to being epidemic proportions in small children. I am primarily referring to type two diabetes that really didn’t exist 100 years ago. If medicine and drug companies would get their heads out of the cash cow (a diagnosis of diabetes means about $300,000.00 to your doctor plus hundreds of thousands to the drug companies), and start attacking the root cause of diabetes we would have very few problems.
A hundred years ago the average person ate a few pounds of sugar a year and now that number (as of 1989) is 134 pounds per year. That number is probably close to 200 pounds of sugar (high fructose syrup is worse) if truth be known. All sorts of agencies are talk about the problem but the media kind of lets it ride because of advertisers paying their bills.
Besides sugar there is an even bigger problem of carbohydrates from potatoes, breads, pastas, and alcohol turning into sugar. We have to stop eating these things and demand that corporations take the chemicals out of foods that also cause obesity – MSG, artificial sweeteners, and other excitotoxins.
